NLC MAFIA – Helps Academics Plus Charter School

Greetings Hitmen,

As some of you may know the weather this past weekend put the bust on a scheduled day of service that was to be held at Maumelle’s Academics Plus Charter School.  Understanding that a cancelation of this magnitude can leave any community activity short handed, the MAFIA Leadership team has decided that this delay presents a perfect opportunity for our Hitmen participate in a local missions outreach to help out a worthy local cause.

This Saturday May 1st from 8 AM -12 PM the NLC MAFIA hitmen will be joining other local churches in resurrecting this day of service by providing some annual Spring cleaning and facility improvements at the APCS campus.  Among the planned projects we need your help to complete are:

Paint:

  • Maintenance and storage area- 40’x24’x14’
  • Portico- 24’x4’
  • F Building- 360’x10’ (Old Strip Mall)
  • A Building- 66’x100’x10’ (Yellow & Blue Bldg)

Concrete:

  • Cut curbs at Lake Point Place, frame, pour, and finish sidewalks- 230’x5’x4’’

Bridges:

  • Move wooden bridge to new offices  (Old Hardwyre / Softwyre)
  • Replace campus wooden bridge with concrete

Playground:

  • Move large rocks, dig out and replace drainage culvert, re-install fence

New Offices:

  • Set bridge, remove wall, set window

Install Doors:

  • Install new doors, frames, and hardware in F Building

Misc.:

  • Move rolls of rubber
  • Rework flower beds of A and F Buildings
  • Repair enclosures around trash receptacles
  • Repair underpinning on portable buildings
  • Replace damaged ceiling tile around campus
  • Clean up overgrowth around alley behind E and F Buildings

You don’t need to be skilled only willing to make a difference.  The materials are purchased and ready for your arrival.  All we need is you (bring your own tools please) and some of your time and we will make this a great day of service, fellowship and community outreach!  Nothing leaves an impression in the hearts and minds of youth like letting them know how very important they are to you, and more importantly to your God through your actions!

Spring 2010 Cross-Ministry HIT Opportunities Revealed

Greeting HITMEN,

Spring is finally here and everywhere we look we are finding things to do with and for people. Expanding our opportunities to serve the local area with our HITS is the NLC Arkansas Dream Center, which is really starting to take place. Serving at the Dream Center is an awesome adventure which allows each of us to be a part of God’s work as we participate and watch our community be transformed right before our very eyes.

With the busy weekend just getting underway, I wanted to just give you guys a shout about a few quick things.

  • First is the Christian Endeavors for Outreach (C.E.O.), led by Jeff & Melissa Allison. Jeff & Melissa are spearheading much of the local mission outreach, this includes several of the Arkansas Dream Center projects. Their next meeting will be Saturday, April 24th, at the Allison house (127 Scenic Valley Loop in Maumelle) at 6:30 PM. You won't want to miss it because they will be talking about a couple of cool projects coming up on May.
  • Second is NLC’s Adopt-a-Highway plan. The Arkansas Highway Dept has approved the church’s application to adopt the mile that begins at Counts Massie Rd (in front of the old church bldg on Maumelle Blvd.) and heads toward the current church bldg. We should have a sign up before too long. So plan on getting actively involved in keeping Arkansas, and our local community, beautiful.

Remember to wear your MAFIA shirts as you participate in these HIT opportunities as it encourages our brothers in Christ to get off the sidelines and into the game! Besides, the more hands involved in a project, the lighter the work, and greater the joy and fellowship.  If you don’t have a MAFIA shirt be sure to get one at next month’s meeting on May 13th at 6:30 PM (GLR Campus).

I want to encourage each of you to give give these service options a try and put next Saturdays C.E.O. meeting on your calendar. Together the ministries of NLC are going to make this Spring something people will be talking about for a long time.

Luke Ribich

Father Wounds - Adam Roth hits it straight on!

Wow, Pastor Adam Roth nailed it! The stronghold of our earthly father's wounds are what most men are challenged by daily. Am I good enough? Do I measure up? Does my dad approve of what I've become? Is he proud of who I am? Does he love me? How or who wounded his heart? What is the effect on my family, my relationships? What do I see, when God sees me? So many questions and they start with our relationships with our natural fathers. Thank you Adam for sharing your heart and wisdom with us all.

This whole quarter the NLC GLR Men's MAFIA is looking to God's Word for answers and healing. Next month John Craft himself will share his own story about the challenges of fatherhood and our own Luke Ribich will reflect on his childhood and how those experiences have manifest in his adult life. Then these might warriors will share God's strategy for finding release and healing from these wounds. I highly recommend every man attend the May MAFIA meeting.

What are MAFIA “HITS?”

H.I.T.S = Helping in the Spirit

“…but among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must become your slave. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:26-28 (NLT)

The New Life Church Men's MAFIA (Men After Faith, Integrity & Action) is a Christian fellowship of brothers-in-Christ dedicated to supporting each another, the NLC congregation and the community-at-large through service outreach (H.I.T.S. – Helping in the Spirit).  Our HITS team is continually receiving requests from our local church and area representatives of individual needs, which we hope to eliminate.  These diverse needs include serving the elderly, widows, families and others whom have a sincere and usually urgent need for encouragement and direct assistance.  The diversity of our HITS range from prayerful intercession to those more physical in nature and have included hospital visits, yard work, relocation, building handicap access fixtures, and other manual labor tasks that these individuals may not be able to easily perform.  These HITS complete our MAFIA vision to be men of faith, integrity and ACTION.  As shown above, Matthew 20:26-28 yields evidence of the importance of our service to others as a foundational block of God’s will to be manifest in our masculinity.  His will is further edified and rewarded by the many relationships that have been built among team members while being in service to others.  We invite all of you to visit our next MAFIA meeting on April 13, 2010 at the New Life Church GLR campus at 6:30 PM to join our HITS team.  See you there!

Hit Request – Sat. 10 APR 2010 @ 0900

Greetings Hitmen,

I am putting the word out about a hit request that has come in from one of our beloved widows, Ms. Kelly Hoffman.  Many of you knew or remember Tim Hoffman who list his battle with brain cancer last year.  Kelly is preparing to sponsor a singles ministry event at her home this month and could really use some help moving some furniture and video game cabinets upstairs to her game room.

I won’t kid any of you, these game cabinets are quite heavy!  That said, I really need to get the support of 4 Hitmen on this mission.  She has a good heavy duty dolly at the house.  I would like to get some of the younger men to jump in on this one.  We can meet at the Kroger parking lot in Maumelle at about 0830 on Saturday.  I do not expect this hit to take more than an hour or so to finish.

If you are available, please email me at lribich@swbell.net or call me on my cell at 501/944-0562 and let me know you will be there.  I look forward to hearing from you.

In His service,

Luke Ribich
